George Frideric HANDEL - Jephtha ( Libretto by Thomas Morell )
Jephtha is Handel’s last oratorio, his true musical testament. Destined to become the iberator of the People of Israel, Jephtha grew up in the desert before becoming a powerful military leader. When leaving to go to war, he swears to sacrifice to the God Jehovah the first person that crosses his path upon his return. Alas, when he returns home victorious, it is Iphis his only daughter who comes to meet him…
The staging of this operatic version, which is at one and the same time simple and majestic, has been entrusted to the German Claus Guth, hailed by the press for the pertinence and contemporary elegance of his adaptations. As for the cast, some of today’s finest voices will come together. An important moment in Les Arts Florissants’ 2017/2018 season.
