Bien que l’Amour

April 1 2016

This anthology of serious airs and drinking songs, which launches the new Arts Florissants collection of harmonia mundi, has already been awarded a Diapason d’or.

The "Les Arts Florissants" collection, the fruit of a new collaboration between Les Arts Florissants and harmonia mundi, the record label that published the Ensemble’s first recordings in the 1980s, hits off with the repertoire of France’s Great Century.

The brand new CD, Bien que l’Amour, features airs by Lambert, Charpentier, François Couperin, Chabanceau de la Barre and Ambruys taken from popular collections of the times alternating invocations of the God of wine and proposals of love.

In addition to William Christie on the harpsichord and his musicians, five singers: Emmanuelle de Negri, Anna Reinhold, Cyril Auvity, Marc Mauillon, Lisandro Abadie — certain of whom discovered at the Jardin des Voix—bring out the sometimes melancholic sometimes exhilarating beauty of a repertoire which Les Arts Florissants have made it their mission to bring back to life since their very creation.

In addition to the new CD, Harmonia mundi is re-releasing 7 recordings by Les Arts Florissants which first appeared in the 1980s and early 1990s with an entirely new and updated presentation.

he new collection will be supplemented by other new recordings and additional re-releases this coming autumn.
