This past year, schoolchildren in Sud-Vendée went on a unique adventure as they learned about the world of Baroque music in a fun and hands-on way with the artists of Les Arts Florissants. It was a memorable experience, topped off with a highly successful final concert!
French Baroque opera, basso continuo, recitative and staging… From March to June, schoolchildren ages 9 and 10 in the schools of Thiré, Fontenay Le Comte (Bouron Massé) and Luçon (René Jaulin) discovered the characteristics of Baroque music during in-class workshops. And all by having fun! Accompanied by the musicians of Les Arts Florissants and directed by stage director and singer Sophie Daneman, the children jumped right in and invented a show for the King by mixing together all the ingredients they’d picked up along the way.
To end on a high note, the students presented their work to an enthusiastic audience at a participatory concert on June 8th. Bravo to all involved!
