A new Handel CD has just been released

December 4 2014

William Christie and Les Arts Florissants have recorded works composed by Handel for the grand ceremonies that marked Queen Caroline’s life. Together these pieces form a musical tribute to the extraordinary friendship between the composer and the monarch.

In this box set, as well as the CD Music for Queen Caroline and a richly illustrated booklet bringing together many sources (including program notes by the American musicologist John H. Roberts), you will find At the Concert, a text specially commissioned by The Arts Florissants Editions from Douglas Kennedy as an introduction to Handel’s music for Queen Caroline.

Buy the disk online from an e-boutique.
Download the digital version from iTunes or Quobuz.
When purchasing the digital version you can download both the booklet and the text by Douglas Kennedy.

“Christie calibrates his performance perfectly – bringing swift movement to Handel’s rapidly set verses…but allowing plenty of spacious swagger and grandeur in the big choruses supported by trumpets...This is an ideal recording for those of us looking for a change from the enthusiastically full-throated and highly articulated Handel singing we get from many British choirs … fit for a queen.”
