William Christie conducts Juilliard School’s students

December 16 2014

William Christie led Juilliard415, the Juilliard School’s student period-instrument ensemble, and Juilliard singers in Handel’s Resurrezione on December 8, 2014 at Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Center, New York).

Since the founding in 2009 of Juilliard 415 as part of that school’s Historical Performance program Christie’s annual visits to conduct it have become essential events. The New York Times has twice included these concerts on its “10 best of the season” list.

This year, again joined by singers from Juilliard’s Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts, William Christie and the orchestra moved onto Handel's Oratorio per la Resurrezione di nostro Signor Gesù Cristo, a more specifically religious work which premiered on Easter Sunday 1708 at the house of Marchese Francesco Maria Ruspoli in Rome.

« As usual, the young Juilliard players gave Mr. Christie their best. » James R. Oestreich – The New York Times (December 10, 2014)

« More than a few in the audience may have not previously been familiar with La Resurrezione, but the promise of Christie magic seduced them into attending. The shouting, stomping ovation at the conclusion suggested that some converts may have been made. » Christopher Corwin – Parterre box (December 9, 2014)
