Red Garden

An indoor-outdoor space, the Red Garden is an outdoor extension of one of the rooms of Le Bâtiment, the red salon. Arranged in this small, mineral amphitheatre, the flamboyant plants in pots seem to keep watch over the house and its music salon—while also offering a perfectly matching décor that is adjusted throughout the year by William Christie himself!

The Red Garden, in William Christie's words:

"When creating the different spaces in the garden, one of my concerns was to link the interior of the house with the exterior. The red garden reflects the decoration of the long gallery it prolongs, which features red-dominated polychrome designs on its beamed ceiling. I love creating temporary gardens using dozens of terracotta pots, an idea I got from looking at turn-of-the-century photographs of Italian gardens; an aesthetic quite different from today's."
